In India’s competitive landscape, every year the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is scaling new heights. In 2021 three students getting a 100% score is telling the status of the competition. Aspirants, therefore, who wish to appear for NEET should prepare a strategy to crack India's single-largest medical entrance examination in the first attempt. If we go by the previous year's trends then one will hardly come across toppers who are not first-timers. The reason is that the NEET UG 2022 syllabus is similar to the Class 11 and 12 syllabi of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Hence, the best chance to get through the competition is the first attempt where the students are preparing simultaneously for Board and competition. How to crack NEET 2022 in the first attempt is not just about hard work but it requires smart work as there will be over 16 lakh students appearing for the exam. Let’s figure out some strategies to achieve our target:
Study material:
It has been observed that questions are asked exclusively from the NCERT textbook and exemplar problems. Nearly 100% of questions in Biology and Chemistry are directly from the NCERT textbook. In physics, all theoretical questions are directly from the NCERT textbook. Our strategy, therefore, should be to focus on the NCERT Textbook. One should not only read the entire text but also need to go through the questions given at the end of the chapter. The diagram also needs to be studied thoroughly, particularly for biology questions. One should avoid reading more than one book in any subject as it, in general, ends up reinforcing the concept for which students need to spend extra energy and time. Reading the same book for more than one time is a better idea than reading the same concept from two different books.
Mind Mapping:
Prepare Mind maps for each section based on the information given in the textbook. It will not only help in building your concept but also going to work as an excellent revision tool just before the examination. Alternatively, one can get the
mind map books and make them a part of one’s preparation
Guidance:
There are three pillars for the success of any student – Hard work of Student, Guidance from an experienced teacher and Support from Parents. The key is hard work which constitutes 90% and the rest of the two - guidance and parent support contribute just 8% and 2% respectively. However, this 8% is the key as it guides you to the correct path for study thereby saving precious time. One needs to remember that objective is to crack NEET and not become a researcher in any subject. It is the experienced teacher who will let you know the extent of the course coverage and that is the key to competitive success. Aspirants of NEET must understand that it is a competitive exam, therefore, mugging up the concepts will not work. The questions of NEET require a basic understanding of topics for which one needs to study hard but also smartly. The smart requires the following operational strategy:
Timetable
When starting to prepare for an exam, the first step should be to prepare a timetable that will help candidates in planning their time topic-wise or subject-wise. It should be ensured by the aspirants that the timetable is followed religiously. The timetable should be prepared to cover the topics which can be revised multiple times.
Prioritization of Topics
One needs to identify the key topics in each subject and it should be covered thoroughly. Such identification requires an expert intervention which could be done easily by an experienced teacher. It’s time to identify and rectify the weak areas and all conceptual weaknesses need to be addressed.
Set Deadlines
Any planning without a deadline will not give the desired result. It is important to set the deadline in such a manner that entire topics get revised at least two times.
Comprehensive evaluation
Study and evaluation should go hand-in-hand. Nowadays a large number of online testing platforms (www.totop.in) are available which can help you in your evaluations. One should not rely on testing for gaining knowledge/information, rather it should be used to check your preparedness for the examination. The follow up needed for evaluation is to revise the incorrectly attempted question and make sure not to repeat the same mistake. Attempting the last 10 year questions is another idea and it should be followed with all candour.
